Rough Fire crosses boundaries

Posted by admin on August 17, 2015

This image, looking west, shows how the Rough Fire has spread, in the last few days, from the Sierra National Forest across three boundaries: the middle fork of the Kings River, the Tombstone Ridge (between the Sierra National Forest and the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park) and the into the Sequoia National Forest on the southern flank.  This 3-dimensional view illustrates the severe ruggedness of the terrain and the complexities of the multi-agency firefighting challenge.  A persistent high pressure system will continue to cause smoke from this fire to impact the Owens Valley for several days.

Rough Fire grows

Posted by admin on August 4, 2015

The Rough Fire, 35 miles due  west of Independence at coordinates 36.87105, -118.90286, was mapped at only 65 acres yesterday but has apparently grown significantly today, as witnessed from this webcam image.  Smoke in the Owens Valley seemed more today than what should be coming from just the Cabin Fire and Willow Fire.  This new fire could very well be the cause.  Cloud cover is preventing confirmation from satellite imagery.  Details will be provided, when available, at our homepage, http://www.gbuapcd.org/, or possibly at the California Smoke Information page, http://californiasmokeinfo.blogspot.com/.

Cabin Fire – Aug. 2015

Posted by admin on August 4, 2015

The Cabin Fire in the Sequoia National Forest started on July 19, 2015, but didn’t significantly impact the East Side until it started to dramatically grow in late July and early August.  See links to the fire’s information at our home website, http://www.gbuapcd.org/.  Smoke production was heavier yesterday than today.  Southwest winds are predicted through Friday so smoke will continue to be driven into the Owens Valley but should decrease in intensity.jordan_peak_0803-1033jordan_peak_08-04-1043
